Commitment to Belief System Shows George Soros’s True Philanthropic Objectives

George Soros was born in Budapest during the time of severe poverty during World War II. He had all the odds stacked against him for becoming anything successful and certainly even more for becoming a billionaire. However, through perseverance and sure willpower, George rose through the shadows of the Nazi-Germany history and exceeded all odds. He is now one of the wealthiest people in the world and provides a lot of hope through his philanthropy efforts. His investment knowledge and enormous business sense has allowed George to build wealth but has also resulted in him being able to help others less fortunate.

In October 2017, the Open Society Foundation announced that George donated $18 billion of his wealth to continue its vision. This history-making donation to a private charity is the largest ever recorded by a single donor. Open Society Foundation has a vision of improving infrastructures despite imperfections of democratic societies, and acts on the belief that the government should be held accountable to all its citizens. The foundation is part of a global community that brings organizations to the forefront that have the desire to bring changes but severely lack the funds to implement the actions needed.

Through his very active involvement with the foundation and in several private philanthropy works to bring change, George has been able to use his wealth to assist those who need it most. He has cumulatively donated $2.9 million towards human rights groups such as the LGBT community, minority groups, as well as religious organizations. George has been active with immigration and donated $5 million towards the grass roots campaign for Immigrant Voters Win, a nationally known political action committee that includes elevating the voting rights of Latino’s, Asian-Americans and other minorities. George has historically supported the Democratic Party and donated to Hillary Clinton’s campaign with more than $25 million in her bid for President.

Despite all of his good deeds towards favorable causes throughout the world, there have been a small set of groups that attempt to disrepute the legacy that George has built over the course of four decades. At the onset of the Black Lives Matter movement, George was one of the first contributors to the organization, which was unfairly publicized as a political ploy. His wealth has never been for sale which is proven by the $11 billion he has personally given to countless organizations worldwide.

Philanthropy is considered as something that comes from an individual’s personal passion and what they hold true as a belief system. The actions by George Soros show that of someone that has true intentions on making a better society. It’s not only the $18 billion that show where his commitment lies for society, but it’s the example that George has been able to show the world for how to make a difference. He founded Open Society Foundation in 1979 with only the belief that the tolerance of indifference’s can be the bridge to changes. Because of his belief, and heart, the foundation is now the second largest private philanthropic organization in the country.
